Time to Show The Sharon Playhouse and Millerton Moviehouse Some Love and $upport!

on Sat, 09/12/2020 - 00:47
I'm sharing a letter from a friend and hope it can inspire more folks from all walks of life, whether movie goer or theatre goer or both, to make a donation to these organiztions...The Moviehouse in Millerton NY or The Sharon Playhouse in CT. I am grateful for both and know the folks who run each venue...and who are performing at a special event this Sunday, September 13th 2020.

The Moviehouse in Millerton is showing movies at Sharon Playhouse’s parking lot. These two important institutions are working together to create fundraisers for the Moviehouse. Last Sunday they showed Jaws which was a terrific event.

Because it was in the parking lot and the patio bar was open and you could order food from JP. Gifford’s, it was, despite social distancing, a community event. Everyone in attendance was there to support the Moviehouse.

Though Carol Sadlon, owner of the theatre, has been streaming films there is a major disparity in income in comparison to the normal routine of going to the movies, getting popcorn and seeing movies on a large screen.

The Moviehouse and Sharon Playhouse are two of the most vital cultural venues in our part of the world. Without them, what would we have within shouting distance? They deserve and need our support.

This Sunday, September 13, they are showing, on a large screen, two silent comedies featuring Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd. Bring the kids! The films will be accompanied by Donald Sosin and Joanna Seaton. They are internationally known having played at film festivals, museums and movie theatres literally all over the world. He has composed music for myriad films and has written symphonies while Joanna has a crystal clear voice. It is a pleasure to hear them play and sing to lend an added dimension to silent movies.

Admission for the showing is fifty dollars per car. Admittedly, this is pricey, but if you had four to six people in the car it would still be only fifty dollars.

In this week’s Lakeville Journal of CT there is an editorial that concludes by saying: “...buy some tickets, make a donation if you’re able, and above all let’s show the Sharon Playhouse and The Moviehouse some love. They’ve been there for us, let’s be there for them.”

We want to ask you to support the Moviehouse, the Playhouse, Donnie and Joanna by going to the Moviehouse’s website events@themoviehouse.net to reserve your space.
Thanks! Enjoy the show (and many thanks for donations to these worthy community mainstays!)
